FLA Core Values

FLA’s core values are a  result of our collective efforts to strengthen student ownership and commitment to education, pride in their community, and college/career readiness for post-high school opportunities.  Students at FLA will have acquired each of the core values via a Leadership Commitment (chosen from a menu of options) by the time they graduate. Each core value is a leadership quality all FLA students are expected to exhibit and is supported by all faculty and staff.

FLA Mission Statement

Together, with families and the community, Fordham Leadership Academy provides students with the skills to reach their human potential, while simultaneously engaging in the exploration of college, community and career opportunities to craft the change they wish to see in the world.

FLA Instructional Focus

If teachers use the practical strategies of WICOR, to supportively engage students in productive struggle through grade aligned pursuits of the CLAPS Framework, then students will be college and career ready.

Leadership Opportunities

Students at FLA are encouraged and supported to be leaders in their school community.  Some examples of leadership opportunities include:

  • National Honor Society
  • Student Government
  • Peer Group Connection (PGC) Leaders
  • Teaching Assistant Scholars (TAS)

FLA Leadership Commitment

At Fordham Leadership Academy, we cater to the whole child by our unwavering commitment to develop future leaders that are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century via academic excellence and character development.

Items of Interest

FLA : A Community School

A Community School is a partnership between school staff, families, youth, and the community to raise student achievement by ensuring that children are physically, emotionally, and socially prepared to learn. A Community School serves as a center of the neighborhood by providing access to critical programs and services like health care, mentoring, expanded learning programs, adult education, and other services that support the whole child, engage families, and strengthen the entire community. In the NYC Community School approach, FLA is paired with Center for Supportive Schools to work collaboratively with the principal and the School Leadership Team (SLT) to carry out the work at the school.
